Soul Mobile, originally known as Soul Pattinson Communication, started out as a small company in 2001. In 2005, it changed its trading name to Soul with its company's base in Newcastle. Washington H. Soul Pattinson holds a substantial stake in the company.
Only a week after it changed its name, the Soul Mobile phones provider was named Best Regional Telco at the 2005 Australian Telco Awards.
